GUYS. GUYS. I am seriously freaking out right now. D:

So I've got a 15 year old sister. I'll call her A. A has a guy friend (I'll call him Tiny Tim. Inside joke.) who likes her, and he's not subtle about it. We used to think this was funny, and we'd all tease A about it, joking how they were in ~loooooooove.

BUT THEN. I was with A and her friends the other day (as the appointed chauffeur, yay) and I saw A and Tiny Tim hugging. Like full-body, grab-you-from-behind hugs.

WAT. WAT IS THIS SHIT. I don't like Tiny Tim. He's a super religious, homophobic, sexist little shit who would sleep with a girl and then call her a slut (not that he's ever slept with anyone, lol). A likes him, tho, because when he's not talking about anything of importance he seems like a sweet guy. (I guess. >:[ )

Now I'm thinking - what if she has sex with him? I'm not crazy about this idea (SHE'S JUST A BABY OMG /biased), but what bothers me more is -- she's never had a sex education. She doesn't have access to condoms, as as far as I know she wouldn't even know what to do with one if she did.

I talked with my mom about this, and she says she's been watching then closely. This isn't as implausible as it sounds, because my sister's homeschooled. But still, SHIT HAPPENS. If teenagers want to have sex they probably will.

In my mom's mind, sex education + access to contraceptives = encouraging teenage shenanigans. In my mind, HOLY SHIT WHAT IF SHE GETS PREGNANT. But I feel like giving my sister The Talk might be stepping out of bounds, a bit.

idk. What should I do, you guys? Should I let my mom do her thing? Or should I send my little sister links to sex education websites and try to talk to her? (I doubt she'd appreciate that.)

MOM: Men wear wallets and women wear purses. You have a wallet, and that's manly.

ME: lol no. I like my manly wallet, tyvm~

MOM: There are only two genders: man and woman. EVERYONE ELSE IS A MUTATION

ME: That's not true! INCORRECT GENDER BINARY

DAD: Yes it is! BIOLOGY blah blah EVOLUTION blah blah

[annoying conversation here]

ME: So you don't think boys are socialized to be more violent?

DAD: Well... MAYBE IN ARABIC COUNTRIES

ME: D:

....I KEEP FORGETTING RL IS NOT FANDOM, GUYS. Apparently, most people believe there are two genders with a clear line that separates them. And maybe that's true for some people, but the whole THERE ARE MEN (ON MARS!) AND WOMEN (ON VENUS!) is such a bizarre concept to me.

Also, the surprise!racism at the end was... pleasant. My dad as this habit, tho. If he sees an opportunity to talk about the crazy japanese/violent muslims/[insert offensive statement about poc here], HE WILL TAKE IT.

You know what sucks? EVERYTHING.

Okay, that might be an exaggeration, but I'm feeling super mopey today. Issue on my mind: With my little sister, it feels like I'm always defending her but I can never depend on her to do the same for me. It's depressing, that's what it is.

Even more, sometimes she'll agree with me on the issue on hand but STILL sides with the ~opposition. Ultimate betrayal. :[

lala )

tldr; my sister told me to shut up and said I was being too ~angry and irrational and did that thing people do when they look at you like you're a stupid fuck unworthy of their attention. And I KNOW she agrees with me on this specific issue, but apparently backing me up would conflict with her constant need to belittle and undercut everything I say.

Whatever.

What are your pet peeves, flist?

For me it's when I hold the door open for a guy and they freak out and insist I go through first. Before anyone calls me a ~humorless feminist~, I am so cool with dudes holding the door open for me. In fact, I think holding the door for someone (regardless of gender~) is the polite thing to do.

But I don't appreciate a guy being all 'OH HOLY SHIT IS THAT A FAIR MAIDEN HOLDING THE DOOR FOR ME? I AM FAILING IN MY MANLY DUTIES, AND SHE MIGHT FAINT FROM THE EFFORT. OH NO, DON'T TAX YOUR ARM LIKE THAT, LET ME HELP.'

SIGH. Look dude, if I reach the door first I'm going to hold it for you. The only other two options would be (1) to slam it in your face, or (2) to stop and wait for you to open it for me. Both of these options are distinctly unappealing. :|

My dad told me that most guys didn't find women with short hair attractive.

I was like, 'omg, thank you! When I make decisions concerning my physical appearance, my main concern is getting the approval of (straight) dudes, how did you know? BRB, GETTING EXTENSIONS.'

wtf people, wtf

Once when I was 12 I dressed up as a Native American for Halloween.

D: D: D:

I totally forgot about it for the longest time, but looking back... holy shit. I'm kind of ashamed of my 12-year-old self, because that racist shit just isn't cool, for a multitude of reasons. I mentioned this to my sister today, and she's like BUT WHY? I DON'T THINK THERE'S ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT.

I D:'d, and then we got into an argument that ended nowhere good. Somehow the concept of blackface was brought up and both of my sisters AND my mom said they didn't know what blackface was and they didn't see the problem with (a white person) dressing up as a black political figure for halloween (for example, Obama). They asked if it was okay to dress up as other presidents (like George Bush), and when I said it was fine they said I was the racist one. RIGHT. Because it's not like blackface is SERIOUS BUSINESS or everything, people are so OVERSENSITIVE these days.

Then they said if it was okay to dress up as a police officer for Halloween, it was okay to dress up as a Native American. BECAUSE THEY'RE THE SAME THING, OBVS.

I'm so angry right, now idekjskla; jagdsfefdjkdf dsa RAGE RAGE RAGE

Fuuuuuuck.

My Spanish-speaking, non-American mother thinks it's "ridiculous" that when calling customer services you have to press 1 for English, because English is the LANGUAGE OF AMERICA and should be considered so. >:[

I was just like... what? WAT? I mean, she speaks English too, and I know she's v.v. conservative, but. idk, I really didn't expect her to be with the unreasonable 'OMGZ BITCH I WON'T PRESS ONE' crowd. O_o

OKAY, so I know I just posted how I'm going on hiatus, but I can't not share these articles before I go for real. Like, what the fuck.

Strict Abortion Measures Enacted in Oklahoma
Though other states have passed similar measures requiring women to have ultrasounds, Oklahoma’s law goes further, mandating that a doctor or technician set up the monitor so the woman can see it and describe the heart, limbs and organs of the fetus. No exceptions are made for rape and incest victims.

A similar law passed in Florida:

Senate focuses on abortion debate in final hours
Florida’s Republican-led Senate pushed through an 11th-hour provision Wednesday that would require women seeking an abortion in their first trimester of pregnancy to pay for ultrasound exams.

The amendment, which had not been debated during committee meetings, was attached to a health care bill (HB 1143) by a 22-17 vote following two hours of emotional debate. It also requires that women must view a live ultrasound image unless they could prove they were a victim of rape, domestic violence or incest by providing a copy of a restraining order, police report, medical record, or other court order or documentation.

Victims of such crimes would still be required to have the ultrasound exam and pay for the procedure, which lawmakers estimated average between $350 and $400.

So a group of people I know (mostly adults, a couple teenagers) were talking about affirmative action the other day, and I was outside the fringes of the group, ~listening. And, well.

It wasn't so much a 'I don't think affirmative action is necessary anymore' conversation as it was a 'OMG, IT'S SO HAAAAAARD TO BE WHIIIIIIIITE WE'RE SO OPPRESSED' conversation. One girl started whining that less qualified people get into schools just because they're minorities, blah blah WHATEVER.

Then 'omg reverse racism!!1!' was brought up and I decided it was probably wise to back away slowly. Like, disclaimer: you can be against affirmative action and not be a racist tool, yeah? I think. But this conversation had a seriously unpleasant underbelly -- we're a group of like-minded white people (well, all but one), durr hurr, say whatever you waaaaaant, no worries!

Then this one teenager who is Iranian joked that in a college application people from the middle east were grouped under 'Caucasian,' and that wasn't fair, that they should get their own group so that "we can mooch like blacks and other minorities."

Ha... ahaha... hahaha...

D:

idek, you guys. I DON'T EVEN KNOW. What do you think? Pretty dubious, y/n?

I took [this] emotional intelligence test today.

I got a 78. SEVENTY. EIGHT. D:

It's not surprising, but STILL. SEVENTY EIGHT? THAT'S THE BOTTOM 8% OF THE POPULATION. ~depressing~

My little sister got 141. Apparently this means the test is ~accurate, because she took a professional EQ test a while back and got the same score. This is the same sister who asked someone if she could call her 'Rachel' instead of her real name (Emily), because she thought Emily was hard to remember. LIFE IS SO UNFAIR.

I know this guy irl, and he's not a bad guy, just... seriously irritating. He likes to argue a lot, and see, I actually agree with him most of the time, but he's just so SMUG and ANNOYING about it I find myself arguing the other side, just because.

Right now I'm arguing with him on facebook. >:( Like, I don't even agree with what I'm saying! But SOMEONE has to knock him down a peg or two.

...THIS IS RIDICULOUS
